Tanco was engaged to construct a 9,800 SF funeral home and full-service mortuary for SCI — the country’s largest provider of funeral, cremation, and cemetery services. The Bakersfield facility includes visitation rooms, a chapel for services, family consultation offices, embalming and preparation areas, a porte-cochère, and a dignified exterior designed to reflect the solemnity of the services provided within.
Mortuary construction involves unique technical requirements including specialized plumbing, ventilation systems for preparation areas, and close coordination with California’s Cemetery and Funeral Bureau for licensing compliance. Tanco managed all regulatory interfaces and delivered the facility on time — allowing SCI to begin serving Bakersfield families immediately upon opening.
